Climate Action Plan

We have developed a Climate Action Plan in line with the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy. This plan demonstrates our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and embedding sustainable practices across the nursery. Through targeted actions and ongoing review, we aim to support the Government’s ambition of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030, while educating children about the importance of caring for the environment and protecting the planet for future generations.

Our named Sustainability Lead is Emma Lacey; however, all staff share responsibility for delivering and embedding our Climate Action Plan, working in partnership with Governors, children, parents, and the wider community.

What This Means for Us as a School

Creating a Climate Action Plan means that, as a nursery school, we are making a wholeschool commitment to:

  • Reduce our environmental impact (energy, water, waste)
  • Make sustainability part of everyday practice.
  • Prepare children to understand and care for the world they live in
  • Act responsibly as a public education setting in line with national expectations

Working with Parents and the Wider Community

We recognise that achieving meaningful and lasting change requires a partnership approach. By working closely with parents, carers, and the wider community, we aim to extend our sustainability message beyond the nursery setting.

We encourage families to support water‑saving, energy‑saving, and waste‑reduction practices at home, helping children see consistency between nursery and home life. Simple messages, such as turning off taps, recycling, and caring for nature, are shared so children can reinforce these behaviours.
